The British Embassy seeks a Senior Press Officer to assist the Deputy Press Secretary in overseeing media relations. The successful applicant will pro-actively ensure coverage of the British Government's foreign and domestic policies to U.S. media audiences. At least two years media experience dealing with foreign policy, government or politics, at a national/international level is required. U.S. citizens, U.S. green card holders, or “A” visa holders may apply.

The American Psychological Association has their minds set on hiring a junior Information Architect/User Experience Designer to assist with their website redesign and more. Website usability and usage analysis appear to be the primary areas of responsibility. Cool thing about the APA website – when you type in a bad/expired link, they posit the existential question: “how did I get here?” Please keep that feature in place if you get the job.

The Public Relations Professional at the American Society of Interior Designers responsible for the strategic communications and media relations of the Society. They’re looking for someone “fluid with exceptional written, verbal, relationship and overall communication skills.”

ProLiteracy champions the power of literacy to improve the lives of adults and their families, communities, and societies. They need a DC-based Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs to manage advocacy issues, representing the group before Congress, federal policymakers and other organizations.

Metro (aka the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority) has doors opening on the right for a Government Relations Officer (note: you’ll have to search further within link). . Eight years of experience in government and/or government relations and the ability to address sensitive issues at the Federal, state or local level are required. Job closes Nov. 28, pay range is $80k-$120k.

Fleishman-Hillard has an immediate opening for a Hispanic Outreach Specialist for work on one of the firm’s largest accounts related to technology and United States immigration and border security issues. Fluency in English and Spanish and a strong understanding of Hispanic culture and community are required, along with 2-5 years of relevant experience.

The nice folks at the American Physical Therapy Association need someone to manage federal/state government affairs, payment policy and grassroots. The Vice President, Government and Payment Advocacy will also participate in senior staff meetings, oversee the PAC, and write for association publications.

Stateside Associates has openings for Legislative Associates to research state legislation and politics for corporate and association clients. State legislative staff experience is a must supporting major corporations and associations in their state lobbying efforts. Starting salary is in mid-high $30k area; benefits include beverages, seated massages and hockey tix.

PR stalwart Ketchum has a spot open for a Vice President, Public Affairs to lead and supervise various account teams and staff. Developing additional revenue opportunities is also part of the equation, of course.

Tired of taking your work home with you at night? Perhaps you would feel differently if you were a Media Manager for Total Wine & More in Bethesda. You’ll implement media/advertising plans, and rigorously track and compare the results. A minimum of seven years relevant experience is required.

Kegger !!!

The American Society of Civil Engineers seeks a Director of State Government Relations to lead state level advocacy efforts on issues such as licensing, transportation and infrastructure.

Do you long for your carefree college days? Unfortunately, that’s probably not exactly what you’ll experience if you’re tapped as Director, Regulatory Affairs for the College of American Pathologists. Instead, you will lead a team working ensure favorable public policies and regulations affecting pathology, laboratory medicine and patient safety in the laboratory setting. A long list of benefits includes comprehensive insurance coverage, retirement plans, flexible hours – but no mention of kegs on Fridays.

The Digital Media Association’s membership includes companies such as Pandora, Apple iTunes, Yahoo!, Rhapsody, AOL, Nokia and others involved in the online music and video business. Ohhh – a secret! Some unnamed company is stealthily seeking a Director, Communications. They don’t give much away about the type of company or industry, but job duties include overseeing editorial content/style on company publications, website management, advertising, branding, and media relations.

The National Association of Electrical and Medical Imaging Equipment Manufacturers has their sights set on hiring a new Director, Government Relations for their Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA). The Director will be responsible for advocacy on federal legislative medical device, technology, and related issues.

The new Associate will analyze/research legislation, regulations, and proposals; develop position papers, work with grassroots network, among other activities. Minimum of three years health care advocacy required; experience with women’s health issues a plus.

The National Association of College and University Business Administrators seeks a Director, Congressional Relations to serve as NACUBO’s primary legislative affairs expert and advocate.

The Arms Control Association invites applications for a full-time Research Associate dealing with nuclear weapons policy and nonproliferation issues. Strong Attachment to the Boating Industry

The National Association of Manufacturers has an opening for Director, Health Policy to lobby on healthcare issues affecting U.S. manufacturing and global competitiveness. NAM also has internship opportunities available.

The Qatar Foundation’s mission include educating Americans about Qatar, Islam and the Arab world, along with facilitating educational exchange with the U.S. The Foundation is searching for an Executive Director (note: pdf link) head the organization, serve as spokesperson, and lead fundraising efforts.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has two positions with its U.S. India Business Council. As Senior Manager, you’ll work for two Senior Directors to help build membership in the Council and support its activities. Salary to the mid-$60k range. The Council’s Program Coordinator will handle a range of communications and administrative functions, and perhaps silently covet at the Senior Manager position. Pay is up to $40k.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association, representing the recreational boating industry, has a spot on deck for a Vice President, Government Affairs to oversee federal, state and local legislative/regulatory activities. They also – quite reasonably – ask that you “have (or be able to develop) a strong attachment to the recreational boating industry.” No mention of boating-related perks in the announcement – but you have to figure there has to be some pretty fun aspects to this job.

Albany, N.Y.-based law firm Tully Rinckey seeks a Lobbyist for their D.C. office. Five or more years of Hill/lobbying experience is desired.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has an opening for a Correspondence Assistant. Duties include reporting of activities and review and verification of data and facts for use in agency correspondence, reports and studies. Pay range is $39-56k; apply by Oct. 31.

The Congressional Affairs Specialist for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will “ensure effective and harmonious relationships are developed and maintained with the Congress, coalitions of government officials, consumer and public interest groups, and the general public.” Sounds like lobbying to me. Pay is $98-127k per year, and the job closes Oct. 30.

The Red Cross seeks a Senior Web Designer with HTML, DreamWeaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash chops – along with experience in usability and other design-related skills.

We'll go far afield for our last public affairs opportunity today - to Las Vegas, where the folks at the Marajuana Policy Project are in the market for a Communications Director for work with the media, opinion-leaders and public audiences. Compensation in the $40-50,000 range, plus you probably get to go to next year's party at the Playboy Mansion.

The Association for Public Television Stations seeks a new President & CEO to helm this 28 year old organization. Up the road in Baltimore, there’s an opening for Communications Manager with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Job appears to involve the usual range of communications activities/responsibilities.

Back to School

The Pew Charitable Trust’s newly-created Economic Policy Dept. is searching for a Project Director and Senior Associate for their Subsidy Monitor program, which looks to shine some light on government involvement in markets, including through regulation, subsidies and tax expenditures.

For once, getting summoned to the principal’s office isn’t a bad thing, if they’re asking you to interview for the Director of Public Relations position at the National Association of Secondary School Principals. For serving as a public information and media contact, NASSP will put $75-85,000 a year in your lunchbox.

Keeping on the schoolyard beat, the National Education Association seeks a Senior Program Assistant, Federal Advocacy to provide a wide range of administrative/program support to their government relations operation. Job posting closes Oct. 24, pay range is $45-76,000.

The concept of bipartisanship is greatly lauded, but less-often practiced, in our fair Capitol. Maybe one of you can help change that through your work as Program Manager, National Security Initiative for the Bipartisan Policy Center, where you’ll help find and promote political consensus on the national security challenges facing the U.S. Internship information (though out of date) is also found down the page at that link.

The Executive Director for the American Diabetes Association will be accountable for the overall, growth, development and success of ADA’s operations in the Washington area, managing and mentoring a staff of 15.

For years, George Washington University had separate departments for communications and government/community relations. They’re being combined, and GW needs a Vice President for External Relations to oversee this 50-person operation with a $10 million budget. This opportunity was posted in September, so no time to waste.

Airports Council International, North America has a spot in the tower for a Vice President, Government Affairs to manage their lobbying operations. Transportation advocacy experience and PAC fundraising chops are among desired candidate attributes. ACI-NA lists other airport jobs here; although none appear to be public-affairs oriented, maybe you can bluff your way into a highly-technical and safety-critical airport job. (Please don’t!)

The American Chemical Society is looking for a Director of Development to “provide leadership to the Society's activities to secure external nongovernmental support for key programs and priorities.” I think they mean “fundraising.” They seek a pro with 10+ years development experience for this high profile posting at the world’s largest scientific society.

The Vice President for Government Affairs at Watson Pharmaceuticals needs a new Administrative Assistant for a variety of scheduling, database, communications, and other tasks in their D.C. office.
