Thriving, progressive Baltimore church is hiring a part-time Communications Manager to update and lead the church’s communications and marketing efforts.

Position Responsibilities:

Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church is a vibrant, progressive and inclusive church in Baltimore’s historic Bolton Hill community. The church provides a rich spiritual home for a diverse congregation and maintains a deep commitment to social justice and community engagement in Baltimore City and in locations across the country and in other nations.

The church is seeking to update and improve its communications activities by hiring its first communications manager. This part-time position will be for roughly 20 hours a week and offers a flexible schedule. The communications manager will report to the senior pastor.

The church is seeking a creative, energetic and experienced communications professional to work closely with the church staff and members of the congregation. Key responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing church communications, such as e-mails and printed mailings; this can include writing or soliciting content, editing material, and overseeing the design of materials.

• Leading the overhaul of the church’s website – creating an RFP for a website design firm and working with others to develop new content.

• Regularly updating church website.

• Leading the church’s effort to select and install a new database system to keep track of church members and other key information.

• Leading the church’s social media efforts.

• Developing and implementing a marketing/advertising plan to promote the church with the broader community and fulfill stated congregational goals.

• Work with staff to develop and use a year-long communications calendar.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• At least three years of experience in communications.

• Strong writing and editing skills.

• Ability to work with a team and effectively manage multiple tasks.

• Ability to work with volunteers on communications projects.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite Google Documents and Google file-sharing, and social media tools, including Facebook and Twitter.

• Background in graphic design is a plus.

• Ability to work with a consultant and lead a website overhaul.

Compensation

Salary will be based on the candidate’s qualifications. This position is not eligible for benefits.
