CTIA-The Wireless Association - Manager of Public Affairs

CTIA-The Wireless Association is looking for a manager of public affairs In this role, the individual would be responsible in assisting the Vice President, Public Affairs in the development and management of robust internal and external communications initiatives that benefit CTIA, its core mission and the wireless industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED) THAT WILL BE PERFORMED:

1. Internal & Public Communications

a)Coordinate with CTIA departments to produce and maintain industry policy topic overviews, talking points and issue briefs for placement on ctia.org, members’ portal and for internal use.
b)Develop issue-oriented outreach such as ctia.org content, other digital materials or other collateral to effectively communicate wireless industry positions on relevant topics, particularly with regard to public policy (e.g., brochures, handouts, etc.).
c)Identify appropriate placement of wireless industry policy content and maximize its effectiveness with supplemental creative assistance from CTIA IT Department and Creative staff within Public Affairs.
d)Identify external placement opportunities (traditional and online media) for wireless industry policy promotional materials and coordinate placement of such materials.
e)Assist in posting and tagging on social media networks.
f)Assist in generating regular internal communications among CTIA staff and CTIA membership.

2. Media Relations

a)Generate and execute creative ideas for proactive media outreach for CTIA and wireless industry policy positions and initiatives.
b)Formulate, write and distribute news releases and other press materials to reporters, analysts and CTIA members.
c)Respond to media requests for information regarding wireless industry policy positions and fulfilling media requests for general information.
d)Manage media lists for both traditional and online outlets with appropriate reporters and contact information.
e)Direct and coordinate media aspects of CTIA events, such as press conferences, Hill events and policy campaigns.

3. Trade Show

a)Prepare press releases, blog posts and social media posts prior to trade show.
b)Assist with identifying compelling interviews to be conducted on-site and develop schedule for camera crews.
c)Manage on-site and D.C. media requests as needed.

KNOWLEDGE:

Proficiency in writing press releases and other public materials in AP style. Knowledge of online editorial outreach (including SEO and SEM). Prefer knowledge of telecom/tech policy.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Experience in Microsoft applications and electronic research programs (e.g., Cision, LexisNexis, etc.).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

4 year college degree. Prefer at least three years at a PR agency and/or Capitol Hill.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Detail-oriented with knowledge of grammar and punctuation. Proficiency in proofreading skills and strong communications skills are required.

American Federation of Government Employees - Strategic Communications Intern (two posts available) and Video Production Intern

Strategic Communications Intern

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Communications Department is looking for qualified and innovative interns to provide support for the largest federal employee labor union during Summer 2015 (May 15-August 7 - Compensation is $11/hour.

The internship program provides students with hands-on experience in developing various forms of media content in order to deliver the message of AFGE members to the media, the public, and members of Congress. We provide students with experience covering hearings on Capitol Hill, designing engaging content for AFGE’s online and social media properties and exposure to the function of the labor movement within the federal sector.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, majoring in journalism, public relations, political science or a related communications field. Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have strong written and oral communication skills.

This position will aid the communications staff in their daily duties, which include, but not limited to:
• Aid team with response to breaking news events
• Design a year-long content series
• Design engaging social media content and images
• Publish original content to AFGE website
• Learn about website creation and maintenance
• Research issues and policies that affect AFGE members
• Track media response to outreach efforts and provide reports to team
• Catalogue AFGE historical materials
• Assist photographer with staffing AFGE events, video editing and cataloguing photos
• Background research to aid press outreach
• Conduct media outreach and content

Video Production Intern

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Communications team is seeking an intern to assist with on-site and off-site video production and editing. The candidate will work with the Communications Department to produce, edit and distribute video content for AFGE during Summer 2015 (May 15-August 7). Compensation is $11/hour.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, majoring in graphic design, video production/editing, or a related field. Video production and graphic design experience preferred, but all qualified candidates will be considered.

Qualifications:

Applicants must:
• Have ability to lift/transport videography equipment unassisted
• Demonstrate ability to produce and edit short form documentaries
• Experience in Premiere and After Effects
• Be skilled with word processors and the Microsoft Office suite
• Experience in producing advocacy-oriented projects is strongly desired
• The ability to make objective decisions and recommendations independently
• Work individually and with a team while adhering to strict deadlines
• Ability to respond quickly and effectively when unexpected events demand an immediate response
• Produce at least two work samples showcasing both cinematography and editing or graphic design ability
• An understanding and commitment to the labor movement is preferred
