Casey Trees - Communications Specialist

Casey Trees, established in 2002 to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of Washington, DC, seeks a Communications Specialist to bring creativity and solid skills to promote Casey Trees’ programs, activities and brand; expand its support network; and help to secure funding to advance our mission.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Manage, develop, write, edit, and help to distribute and track bi-weekly e-newsletter;
• Plan and manage editorial calendar;
• Work in collaboration with Communications and Marketing Associate to design and manage digital content-creation and in-house projects;
• Monitor, curate, and post daily activities on social media platforms;
• Work with the Communications and Marketing Associate to coordinate photography needs of external/ internal events, stories, articles, etc. and handle post-production editing, standardizing, output, etc.;
• Collaborate with multiple departments to develop topics, strategies and stories to achieve communication and development objectives;
• Interact with constituents by answering questions, offering solutions and sparking discussion on social platforms;
• Coordinate with Web Editor, Marketing Associate, Development Associate, CRM Administrator, and others to reinforce relationships across platforms and to generate multi-touch engagements with current, past, and potential supporters and volunteers;
• Represent the organization at community events;

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum of two years e-communications experience required;
• Ability to write and edit professionally about public affairs issues and demonstrate sound discretion when engaging with the public;
• Strong computer literacy is essential; Proficiency in Photoshop and Premiere necessary, Knowledge of basic HTML and CSS desired;
• Experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite applications, preferred;
• Skilled in preparing digital images and videos in proper format for online use;
• Knowledge of social networking, photo/video sharing and blog platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Flickr, YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat;
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and projects and to meet deadlines;
• Experience with CRM, Salesforce or comparable database system;
• Understanding of fundraising, membership, volunteer and advocacy needs;
• Strong interest in urban forestry issues;
• Prior experience in the nonprofit sector highly desirable;
• Sense of humor, helpful.

POSITION DURATION AND COMPENSATION:
Salary commensurate with experience.
