All Hazards Management Consortium - Graphic Designer

Our client, located in Washington, DC, seeks a graphic designer position (contract) located in the emergency management field in the National Capital Region. The position works 40 hours a week at the client’s location in Washington, DC with a schedule of 8am–4:30pm. Designer may work atypical shifts to accommodate emergency response activities.

The designer is responsible for conceptualizing, designing and producing print and digital designs for a wide variety of formats and dissemination outputs to communicate the client’s mission to the public & partners.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensures brand consistency in the planning and developing of original designs, concepts or visual styles for publications, websites and presentation materials that present ideas or images will evoke favorable response from the target audience.
• Uses desktop publishing and new technologies to design graphic objects for brochures, flyers, posters, reports, programs, signage, diagrams, infographics, presentation visuals, illustrations, publication design, digital/website marketing assets, etc. The incumbent also advises on the digital design for the client’s websites and applications. Transforms written descriptions of items, processes, issues, or events into visual representations without benefits of existing picture, model or diagrams.
• Provide and assist with website graphic support.
• Supports the management and review of the client’s brand style guides.
• Understands print production and maintains relationships with client’s vendors.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) and Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of a variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and production of visual products.
• Knowledge of website design techniques and content management systems used to create websites.
• Ability to use visual and auditory elements to enhance the website design.
• Knowledge of and ability to effectively search the internet for current data, techniques, software and hardware to enhance visual art methods used in the department.
• Knowledge of visual design and presentations.
• Demonstrated experience in of print and digital delivery processes and demonstrated ability to prepare print- and digital-ready files for vendors.
• Understanding of current web standards and UX/UI fundamentals; includes strong writing and editing background that lends to writing for websites.
• Extremely proficient with popular social media software and emerging apps.
• Demonstrated creativity and documented immersion in social media with a professional online presence.
• Ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side, able to demonstrate why ideas are analytically sound.
• Video (Premiere Pro CC or Final Cut Pro X), photo editing and expertise in illustration and layout (both print and digital), with motion graphics experience a plus.

Skills
• Meeting deadlines and working well under pressure;
• Effectively managing projects and resources;
• Creating graphic projects and tactics for a variety of distribution channels;
• Designing, scaling and adjusting all types of print, digital and specialty graphics;
• Determining appropriate materials, colors, and typography to utilize in graphics;

Licensures, Certifications and Other Requirements
• Strong desktop publishing required as well as knowledge of print production.
• Applicant must provide portfolio showcasing design work.

Education
BA or BS in design or related major or equivalent combination of education & work experience.

Work Experience
Minimum of 3-5 years graphic design and communications experience
