The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America - Public Relations Intern

The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, Inc., a national association representing a quarter of a million professionals and small business owners across the country, is looking for an intern to assist the directors of public affairs and broadcast media.

The public relations intern helps with media monitoring, writing projects, the association’s annual events, video projects and other online and organizational projects.

The ideal candidate is a mass communication, journalism or public affairs/relations undergraduate student interested in public relations from the perspective of a business association. Good organizational and communication skills, intellectual curiosity and a respectful and professional attitude are required. Must be able to juggle multiple deadlines and work independently.

This is not a paid internship. You will be compensated with professional experience and academic credit.

Requirements/Preferences:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and course that provides academic credit for this internship

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style is a plus

• Self-starter; ability to meet tight deadlines; strong attention to detail

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume and two writing samples to Margarita Tapia, director of public affairs, at margarita.tapia@iiaba.net with the subject line “public relations intern.” No phone calls, please. Deadline for applications is Sept. 3, 2013.
