National Venture Capital Association - Manager of Communications

The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) seeks a Manager of Communications to join its team. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Manager of Communications will be intimately involved in the day-to-day operation of NVCA’s communications shop and will play a central role in communicating with key constituencies in the startup ecosystem as well as enhancing NVCA’s brand and reputation in Washington, DC.

Duties and Responsibilities

Media Relations:
--Assist with day to day media requests, including the processing and responding to requests for data.
--Assist with the production and distribution of media relations products, including press releases, pitches, media alerts, etc.
--Manage event media operations.
--Develop and maintain media lists.
--Develop strategies and media relations plans to garner earned media coverage for the association and its members.

Writing:
--Draft and edit blog posts, op-eds and letters to the editor.
--Contribute to monthly column in industry trade magazine.
--Draft speeches, talking points and PowerPoint decks for CEO and other senior staff.
--Special writing projects as assigned.

Member Communications:
--Responsible for drafting, formatting and distributing all member communication products, including newsletters, policy updates and association news items.
--Lead editor for daily electronic newsletter/news aggregator.

Website and Social Media:
--Lead architect and manager of the association’s social media strategy, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
--Generate content and post updates to website.
--Provide ongoing maintenance of website to improve user experience.

Database Management:
--Develop and oversee strategies and tactics for the collection and use of data.
--Develop methods of integrating data-driven testing and experimentation with member communications.
--Maintain and update membership and prospect databases and produce monthly reports.
--Develop and maintain queries and reports for organization events and projects.
--Key point of contact with database vendor and consultants.
--Handle mailing list rentals

Qualifications
--Bachelor’s degree at a minimum, but a master’s degree would be even better.
--3-5 years professional experience, ideally in communications and/or media relations.
--Capitol Hill experience strongly desired but not required.
--Political campaign experience would be appreciated.
--Must be a self-starter with high level of initiative that can work without close supervision.
--Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
--Strong writer with superior editing skills.
--Familiarity with membership associations.
--Basic understanding of database management.
