· Craft and implement a program communications strategy for the 2016 TARC season.

· Manage media relations for the program, with emphasis on promoting coverage of finalist teams and the program’s national and international finals. This includes serving as the program’s media point of contact, facilitating team interviews, tracking media hits, and pitching TARC to national, regional, and local media.

· Draft and issue program-related press releases and media advisories.

· Compose and organize remarks and run of show for program finals in conjunction with AIA speechwriter and TARC program staff.

· Provide onsite support for the TARC Final Fly-off, including coordination of full AIA communications team and onsite press coverage.

· Provide offsite support for the International Rocketry Challenge.

· Develop and execute program social media strategy, as well as day-to-day social channel management.

· Oversee development of program video and photography.

· Identify, pursue, and execute TARC participation in emergent media opportunities such as the White House Science Fair.

· Fulfill other related duties as necessary or assigned.

This is a contract position for the period from February 1 to July 22, 2016. We expect that the responsibilities associated with the contract will occupy eight hours per day, five days per week, for the duration of the contract with limited additional weekend hours associated with the TARC National Finals in May and the International Rocketry Challenge in July. The selected individual will report to AIA Communications Director Dan Stohr. Applicants should reside in the greater Washington, D.C. area for the duration of the contract. The position will be based at AIA’s offices in Rosslyn, VA, but also allow for some remote work.

Interested individuals should submit a resume and cover letter to no later than January 1, 2016. We welcome submissions from experienced or early career individuals, as well as new graduates.

About TARC:

The Team America Rocketry Challenge is the world’s largest student rocket contest and the aerospace industry’s flagship program designed to encourage students to pursue study and careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association, the National Association of Rocketry and more than 25 industry partners, TARC provides middle and high school students the opportunity to design, build and launch model rockets in a competition among thousands of students nationwide.

About AIA:

The Aerospace Industries Association, founded in 1919 only a few years after the birth of flight, is the premier trade association representing major aerospace and defense manufacturers and suppliers in the United States. Today, more than 300 major aerospace and defense companies and their suppliers are members of the association, embodying every high-technology manufacturing segment of the U.S. aerospace and defense industry from commercial aviation and avionics, to manned and unmanned defense systems, to space technologies and satellite communications.
