ReplyDeletePhysicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) seeks a program director for its Safe Energy Program to educate Congress and the public about the economic, health, safety, and proliferation risks associated with nuclear reactors given that safe, clean renewable energy and efficiency are the only sustainable solutions to energy-caused health effects, pollution, and climate change.
Responsibilities
Coalition Building
-- Coordinate advocacy groups to advance the mission of the Safe Energy Program at the federal level and in targeted states.
-- Engage new constituencies in advocacy for safe energy policies.
-- Initiate and manage, in cooperation with national and local allies, the development of educational events and speaking tours for energy experts.
-- Collaborate with coalition partners to design and enact coalition strategies to prevent new nuclear energy production utilizing legislative, campaign, legal, research, and media tactics.
Policy
-- Communicate and collaborate with key expert consultants to create and implement national and state strategies for achieving program goals.
-- Create and/or edit educational materials on nuclear energy issues for policymakers, media, and the public, including fact sheets, policy analyses, and articles.
-- Present at educational programs and conferences.
Legislative
-- Develop national legislative strategy with allies and coordinate coalition lobbying campaigns to meet program goals.
-- Educate decision-makers, including members of Congress and the Administration, about nuclear energy issues, elimination of nuclear subsidies, and the merits of other policies to clean energy.
Media
-- In conjunction with the media consultant(s), develop and assist in implementing effective media strategies, tactics, and messages related to nuclear energy issues.
-- Serve as media spokesperson or forward press inquiries to other experts on nuclear energy issues.
-- Prepare or assist in preparation of media statements, advisories, and op-ed pieces.
-- Develop or supervise social media strategies.
Management
-- Supervise program staff, consultants, and interns.
-- Oversee the Safe Energy Program section of PSR’s website.
-- Serve as primary contact with PSR’s Board of Directors for the Safe Energy Program.
-- Work with PSR’s Executive and Associate Directors to develop and manage the Safe Energy Program budget.
Grassroots
-- Collaborate w/ grassroots groups and integrate them into national and state strategies.
-- Provide policy and technical expertise to grassroots on legislation and developments at the state level related to nuclear energy.
-- Mobilize concerned citizens and PSR chapters and members as needed and appropriate on nuclear energy issues via a range of outreach strategies.
The Safe Energy Program Director reports to the Executive Director
Qualifications
-- B.A. or B.S.; Graduate degree preferred.
-- Proven skills managing policy programs and coalitions with results-driven outcomes.
-- At least 3-5 years professional experience in energy or climate change issues with knowledge of nuclear energy issues.
-- Demonstrated knowledge of legislative, policymaking, and issue organizing processes.
-- Self-starter and independent worker
-- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work easily with diverse groups, and demonstrated effective collaborative style.
-- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizing skills; effective problem-solver.
