YWCA USA, the national headquarters office of the YWCA, has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Intern for the spring of 2013. POSITION OVERVIEW:
The YWCA USA currently has an internship opportunity available to those with an interest in the Communications, Public Relations and Online Engagement aspects of nonprofit management. This is a great opportunity for someone who is studying public relations, mass communications, journalism, and/or marketing, or has recently graduated with a degree in one of these fields, and is looking for real work experience. This is an unpaid internship. College credit can be arranged.
Interns must commit to a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks, and a minimum of 12 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-- Assist the Department of Communications with external communications, online engagement projects and press outreach.
-- Assist with communications around YWCA’s 2013 Annual Conference, advocacy initiatives, fundraising and promotion of local associations.
-- Research and provide content for social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.).
-- Draft, edit and proofread communications documents and outputs (blog posts, social media messages, media advisories and newsletters).
-- Assist in tracking media and social media coverage of YWCA and in circulating, posting and leveraging media coverage across platforms.
-- Research and assist in the implementation of media outreach and partnership campaigns.
-- Perform other duties as assigned.

-- Very strong writing and editing skills, and attention to detail.
-- An open mind and willingness to learn.
-- Ability to learn programs and processes quickly and to deliver results under tight deadlines.
-- Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable working with the public, the media and others.

-- Knowledge of social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, blogs) and Microsoft Office programs.
