    The International Council on Clean Transportation has an immediate opening for a research assistant/writer to help develop a book proposal and manuscript. This individual will report to a former EPA department director to gather the necessary background research and develop a strong, intriguing proposal to attract publishing consideration. The position’s responsibilities will be focused on developing a number of key book themes pertaining to fuel economy and greenhouse gas regulations, the legislative and regulatory processes beyond those efforts, and emerging emissions control technologies, amongst others. This is a temporary position (min. 30 hr/wk) for a period of no fewer than 3 months, and could be extended by mutual agreement.

    Daily tasks include:

    • Researching regulatory and legislative developments, as well as court decisions, related to EPA’s mandate to regulate greenhouse gas emissions
    • Preparing background memos on contemporary and historical aspects of the evolving relationship between government regulators and the American auto industry.
    • Scheduling and documenting interviews with industry executives, government officials and other key figures
    • Developing proposal elements such as outlines and sample chapters as the need arises

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have a degree in journalism or communications and provide writing samples that demonstrate the ability to write clearly and compellingly. Experience or familiarity with the EPA or the auto industry a plus.

    Salary and Benefits

    Compensation is $25/hr. No benefits.
