Established 1858, the YWCA is the oldest & largest women’s organization dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women. In the US, the YWCA serves over 2 million women, girls and their families each year.
These are unpaid internships. Intern applicants must check with their universities to determine if course credit is available. Interns must commit to a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks, and a minimum of 12 hours per week, Mon-Fri between 9 am & 5 pm
COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
Responsibilities
• Assist the Department of Communications with editing, proofing and archiving communications to local associations.
• Assist with preparation of website updates, such as special features, news and press materials, as assigned.
• Assist with communications leading up to, during and following the YWCA 2013 Annual Conference in June, including outreach to local associations, press, speakers and stakeholders.
• Research, edit and proofread communications materials including: memos, fact sheets, blog posts, media advisories and newsletter items.
• Assist in tracking social and media coverage of the YWCA across platforms for potential news alerts and story ideas.
• Assist the department in maintaining messaging and planning calendars, communications files and other archival materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills
• Strong writing, editing skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to learn programs and processes quickly and to deliver results under tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, HTML coding and email newsletter content management systems.
• Experience and/or interest in email newsletter publishing and editing.
• Understanding of and interest in broadcast, cable, print and radio media.
• A sincere interest in the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.
ONLINE ENGAGEMENT INTERN
Responsibilities
• Assist the Department of Communications with researching and preparing internal and external online communications materials.
• Assist with online engagement and communications during and following the YWCA 2013 Annual Conference in June.
• Draft, edit and proofread online communications documents and outputs (blog posts, social media language, website content, newsletters and other materials as needed).
• Assist in tracking monitoring and updating YWCA’s social media networks, blog and website properties (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.)
• Research and assist in the implementation of online outreach and events, and partnership campaigns.
• Assist with graphic design and database management, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills:
• Strong writing, editing skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to learn programs and processes quickly and to deliver results under tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, social media and blogging platforms. Experience with social media/website analytics desired, but not required.
