    The Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU) is a voluntary membership organization of accredited, private postsecondary schools, institutes, colleges and universities that provide career-specific educational programs. APSCU has about 1,400 members that educate and support over 3 million students each year for employment in over 200 occupational fields. APSCU member institutions provide the full range of higher education programs, including master's and doctorate degrees, two-year and four-year associate and baccalaureate degree programs, and short-term certificate and diploma programs.

    Some of the occupational fields for which APSCU institutions provide programs include: information technology; allied health; business administration; commercial art; radio and television broadcasting; and culinary and hospitality management.

    Position Description

    APSCU is seeking a dynamic, self-starter to assist with communications efforts this fall. This internship is an excellent opportunity for this individual to experience the various aspects of communications including advocacy, public relations, social media, media relations, and copywriting.

    This position will report to the vice president of public affairs.

    Responsibilities

    -- Assist in drafting and editing promotional materials—press releases, letters, e-mail blasts, social media content, event brochures and mailers, fact sheets, etc.
    -- Become familiar with our institutions and seek out interesting stories that highlight our students
    -- Draft articles or posts for the APSCU Blog
    -- Draft content for Twitter/Facebook
    -- Assist in drafting, editing and proofing e-mail blasts
    -- Assist in the promotional planning of APSCU events
    -- Assist with other general administrative tasks as they arise

    Qualifications

    -- Undergraduate junior/senior or a graduate-level student in a related field (i.e. English, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications)
    -- Ability to work independently
    -- Good organizational skills
    -- Detail-oriented
    -- Multi-task and meet deadlines
    -- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
    -- Strong writing and editing skills
    -- Familiar with AP Style
    -- Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter)

    Start/End Date - August through December

    Hours - At least 2 full days a week

    Compensation - Hourly: $10
