The Hospital Center is among the 50 largest hospitals in the nation and is renowned for handling the region’s most complex cases. The Hospital Center is the only hospital in the area with a nationally ranked heart program recognized by U.S. News and World Report.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Public Affairs & Marketing Department is currently accepting applications for a communications intern to begin in September. The intern will be responsible for helping to execute a number of public relations and media efforts, in addition to organizing communications collateral and content. This will require a good understanding of media, marketing and public relations initiatives as well as excellent organizational skills in a fast paced environment. Position reports to Senior Media Relations Specialist in close coordination with other team members.
This is an unpaid internship. College credit is available where applicable. Dining allowance and transportation benefits included with Internship.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Draft press releases, media advisories, fact sheets.
• Help monitor social media outlets and assist with social media efforts.
• Assist with the organization of press lists and expert lists.
• Assist with media file organization and filing of press clips.
• Assist with organization of shared content.
• Assist with research and content of PR collateral and activities.
• Assist in maintaining updates on website.
• Administrative duties as assigned.
• Support other teams as needed.
Qualifications:
• Strong, proven research and writing skills and a high level of proficiency
• Self-motivated and well-suited to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
• Proficiency in Office [ Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel]
• Close attention to detail and able to take on new challenges daily
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at once
• Resourceful and creative
• Ability to work 15-20 hours a week
• Some knowledge of design and web tools
• Desire for a career in PR and some basic knowledge of healthcare industry preferred
• Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree with a concentration in communication, marketing, public relations, or other related field
