Primary Responsibilities:
The Government Affairs Manager executes various aspects of AALU’s Government Affairs Department workflow including administrative support and scheduling for the Vice President and Senior Vice President, department budgets, staff meetings, and other critical projects that relate to the work of AALU’s management team, Board, Executive Committee, GA Committees interaction.
Among the key responsibilities for the Government Affairs Manager will be to:
--Provides general administrative support, particularly to the Vice President and Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, including scheduling, expense reports, invoices, and office
--Manages Government Affairs budget process
--Assist primary Government Affairs staff with implementation and execution of various programs, e.g. Annual Meeting, IMPACT, PAC events, and Political Fly-ins
--Prepares and files AALU’s federal lobbying disclosures each quarter, as well as state disclosures
--Coordinates department functions between AALU’s DC and Reston offices
--Perform additional duties as needed and required
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
--2-3 years work experience
--Excellent computer skills including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office along with some database experience
--Excellent organizational and planning skills
--Excellent verbal and written communication skills
--Strong interest in the political process
--Ability to carry through tasks with minimal direction
--Ability to anticipate needs, think critically, and add value to projects
--Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
--Some database experience preferred
--College degree, or equivalent skills and experience
