    The American Waterways Operators, the national trade association representing the U.S. tugboat, towboat and barge industry, is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director, Communications and Public Affairs. The successful candidate will lead internal communications and external public affairs efforts that showcase the value AWO provides to industry members and the benefits the industry provides to the nation.   2. Visiting Nurse Associations of America - Legislative Affairs Spring 2015 Intern

    The Visiting Nurse Associations of America is a fast-paced, energetic industry leadership organization changing the perspective on home health, hospice and palliative care. VNAA educates, supports and advances the role of home health and hospice providers in new care delivery and payment models to expand industry opportunities, drive quality improvement initiatives and ensure access to services. VNAA seeks an Intern, Legislative Affairs to advance federal policy initiatives.
    Description of internship:

    We are currently seeking candidates for an unpaid internship position to begin in January 2015. The intern would support our Director of Legislative Affairs in research, data entry and Congressional outreach. Assignments will include a wide variety of projects and activities and last from a few days to several weeks. This internship is ideal for students who plan careers in public policy, government relations, and advocacy, and is an excellent opportunity to gain work experience in a nonprofit association.

    This is a part-time unpaid internship position (20 hours/week) that could be used to earn academic credit and is available for a spring term (January – May 2015).

    Responsibilities:
    • Assist staff in planning and conducting grassroots advocacy activities
    • Assist in updating and maintaining the VNAA membership database and legislative tracking database
    • Attend meetings and Congressional hearings and/or briefings
    • Monitor legislation
    • Assist in research and drafting of reports, memos and presentations

    Qualities of an ideal candidate:
    • Strong interest in and knowledge of public policy, American government and politics, health care
    • Detail-oriented self-starter
    • Proficient in Microsoft applications, particularly Excel
    • Excellent written, oral, and inter-personal skills
    • Previous internship experience a plus
