    Position Summary

    The Intern will support the HDMK's leadership in executing communications campaigns for a variety of public policy clients in the corporate and nonprofit sectors. The intern will conduct legislative research for the firm's clients, monitor and cover Congressional hearings, compile daily news clips, build media lists, and draft communications materials. The intern will be responsible for handling some administrative and office duties.

    This position is unpaid. Flexible hours and college credit available.

    The Legislative Assistant position at at DC law firm Shaw Bransford & Roth, P.C. is under the government affairs and consulting team. It is an entry to mid-level position that will allow you to gain valuable experience in the field of government relations. This is a boutique law firm practicing federal employment law, that also has an active government affairs shop with multiple association clients.

    This is a substantive position in scope and duties. The Legislative Assistant will assist in legislative work on behalf of the law firm’s government affairs and consulting clients. Duties include:

    • Attend meetings on the Hill and with coalition groups.
    • Draft correspondence to Members of Congress.
    • Track legislation and attend Congressional hearings.
    • Conduct research for white papers and other projects relating to legislative issues.
    • Draft press statements, maintain press lists, and update social media accounts.

    Candidates should be able to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience on Capitol Hill is not necessary, but is a plus.
