Living Well May Be the Best Revenge, But Giving Well is Probably a Better Idea in the Long Run

Hello Monday!  We’d normally wax on about college basketball exiting the stage tonight just as baseball starts the long march to October – and a finally-cheerful finish for the Nats, we hope.

But we’ll take what limited attention you grant our assorted ramblings, enthusiasms & weather-related complaints to instead note this neat Kristof/NYT column on effective philanthropy choices, featuring the work of GiveWell, a group that highlights charities that serve the global poor, focus on evidence-backed interventions & are transparent/well-vetted.

And, while we’re at it, we’ll again mention other resources in this area: the extensive William & Mary-sponsored AidData portal (their blog is a good place to start), and longtime nonprofit-evaluator Charity Navigator, whose organization search page features a category/cause option, which, if used with state/city search parameters, makes for a helpful tool to identify potential employers in the non-profit/charity space.

And, of course, don’t forget previously noted opportunities closing this week.  Now on to what you're really here for.
