    Location: Washington, D.C.

    Growth Energy is the nation’s leading association of ethanol producers and supporters. We are currently looking to add to our communications staff to ensure our message is delivered not only to policy makers in Washington, but also to the media, the public and our membership.

    General Responsibilities:
    The primary responsibility of this role will be to monitor news coverage of Growth Energy, the biofuels industry and Growth Energy’s membership and to compile daily news reports outlining the various stories surrounding the biofuels industry.
    Furthermore, this individual will be responsible for creating general content such as: blog posts, member updates, assist communications staff with social media interaction as well as assist in general content creation for the communications team, membership organizations and Growth Energy’s diverse partnership.

    Specific Responsibilities:
    • Monitor daily media coverage of biofuels industry.
    • Work with Growth Energy partners on NASCAR partnership and communications surrounding American Ethanol initiative
    • Compile daily news summaries/clips of relevant stories each morning for distribution to staff and membership.
    • Update Growth Energy website with pertinent news stories, press releases and other timely content
    • Craft blog posts for Growth Energy’s homepage.
    • Work with members of Growth Energy to assist in any communications/public relations needs.
    • Assist in the drafting of publications and other communications materials as needed.
    • Work directly with fellow communications associate to utilize social media to enhance origination’s messages on various platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
    • Assist in activating our grassroots advocates on priority issues using traditional and new media advocacy techniques (e.g. Facebook, Twitter).
    • Serve as primary point of contact for media/public relation needs for membership organizations.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to leverage and coordinate issue response activities in achieving earned media goals.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    Position requires a self-directed and energetic individual who possesses excellent speaking and writing skills coupled with the ability to identify key industry issues, disseminate information to staff and membership as well as generate positive news items to discuss on Growth Energy blog and social media platforms.

    Other critical skills include: the ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment, a solid understanding of grassroots outreach initiatives and a firm grasp of various social media platforms.

    At least one year experience in communications is a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with an agricultural/energy policy background, understanding of the U.S. policy process and government experience.

    A bachelor’s degree in communications, political science or related field required.
