    Union Privilege is a not-for-profit organization that is the primary consumer benefits arm of the AFL-CIO, representing roughly 13 million union members. We provide roughly 40 Union Plus discounts and benefits, including the largest affinity credit card program, for union members and their families. We advocate on behalf of union consumers by negotiating unique offers and providing a union member customer advocate. Our office is located in Washington, DC.

    This position’s responsibilities include:

    1. In conjunction with Vice President, develop and implement email communications strategy, execution & analysis -- including ramping up new email platform, onboarding arcs leading to program participation, email editorial calendar, metrics/reporting, targeting with mobile/social integration, testing and optimization, etc.

    2. Grow union member/leader email and mobile opt-in lists, including maintaining list hygiene and social media integration.

    3. Implement online marketing, including search engine optimization & SEM, link outreach from partner sites, targeted online advertising, etc.

    4. Manage Union Plus desktop/mobile web sites and apps in conjunction with staff, vendors and program providers to reach organization metrics – including all related error-checking, speed/performance, content, design, usability testing, online tools, registration, etc. Should enforce standards and consistency in content, coding and site structure/files, etc.

    5. Develop compelling, easy-to-understand content and online funnels that move more site visitors to engaged visitors, leads and Union Plus program participants.

    6. Be part of the creative team that develops and implements innovative, robust digital outreach techniques to reach target audiences.

    7. Manage appropriate digital consultants/vendors.

    8. Meet or exceed all web-related metrics, tracking and overall analysis with optimization.

    9. Responsible for other duties as assigned.

    Position qualifications

    1. Proficient knowledge of the Internet and a working understanding of all facets of Internet communications and Web development, including strategies, mobile, design, web requirements, implementation, analytics and measurement.

    2. Proficient experience with email design, messaging, delivery strategy/tactics and analytics.

    3. Superior communications skills.

    4. Excellent project management and scheduling skills, including ability to manage vendors/consultants.

    5. Understanding of how to measure success with clear metrics.

    6. Understanding of emerging Internet technologies and industry trends.

    7. Strong and fast writer with proven success writing for online/email audience.

    8. Good working knowledge of HTML, DHTML, Ruby on Rails, CSS style sheets, javascript, Ajax, APIs, Excel and other effective digital technology.

    9. Demonstrated organizational skills; ability to work independently and in a team; juggle multiple high-priority tasks quickly and without errors; solve problems; creative; take initiative; meet deadlines and set priorities.

    10. Must have at least three years hands-on experience in full web site and email content development and management.

    11. Bachelors degree in PR, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field. Masters degree is a plus.

    12. Union experience and familiarity with Exact Target email platform is a definite plus.
