    Summer Internship on Capitol Hill

    House representative from California is currently accepting applications for full-time interns in their Washington, D.C. office for summer 2016. We are seeking highly qualified candidates who are personable, detail-oriented, and motivated. In the office, intern responsibilities will vary. You will be asked to answer the phones, give tours of the capitol, run errands, assist with constituent communication, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, and attend hearings and briefings. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. Internships are unpaid but the office will provide any necessary assistance for students to receive academic credit at their respective college or university.   2. USAID/Maternal and Child Survival Program - Communications and Graphic Design Intern

    Fall Semester (Sept 1-Dec 10)
    20-24 hours/week

    The Maternal and Child Survival Program is a global, USAID Cooperative Agreement to introduce and support high-impact health interventions with a focus on 24 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable maternal and child deaths (EPMCD) within a generation. The Program is focused on ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives.

    The Maternal and Child Survival Program supports programming in maternal, newborn and child health,immunization, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment.

    The Communications and Graphic Design Intern will assist the MCSP Communications Team in executing communications plans and strategies. This includes seeking opportunities to highlight MCSP programs, initiatives, products and results through featured articles, collateral, conferences, events, and via web and social media mediums.

    This internship is unpaid and open to current students only.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support Communications Team in the execution of MCSP’s strategic communications plan

    • Provide graphic design support to the Communications Team.

    • Engage MCHIP and other organizations on social media channels

    • Help to write and deliver press releases, fact sheets, blogs, articles and collateral materials

    • Develop accurate and creative story ideas for a variety of media and selected audiences, including sharing among like-minded groups and partner organizations

    • Aid in planning of high level events for USAID and MCSP

    Required Qualifications:

    • Demonstrate ability to plan and execute successful events and manage projects

    • Experience in graphic design, specifically adobe products (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop – preferred); Proficiency in other Adobe products highly valued.

    • Ability to multi-task is a must

    • Strong written oral and presentation skills

    • Familiarity with and/or interest in international development

    • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, build consensus and work with diverse groups of people

    • Preference will be given to students enrolled in programs such as Graphic Design, Communications, or other applicable programs.

  3. Economic Innovation Group - Paid Fall Communications Intern

    The Economic Innovation Group (EIG) is a leading policy and advocacy organization dedicated to forging a more dynamic, entrepreneurial, and innovative U.S. economy for the 21st century. Founded by Sean Parker and led by an experienced, bipartisan team in Washington, D.C., EIG convenes leading experts from the public and private sectors, develops original policy research, and works to advance creative legislative proposals that will bring new jobs, investment, and economic growth to communities across the nation.

    THE ROLE

    EIG’s Communications Intern will contribute to growing and executing EIG’s communications and outreach strategy. Interns will work directly with EIG’s Executive Team and staff on a wide variety of projects and topics. Interns will have a unique opportunity to contribute to policy and advocacy efforts impacting U.S. economic growth and new business and job creation.

    Previous communications interns’ work has been featured in publications like the New York Times, the Washington Post, TIME, The Atlantic, Vox, and more.

    Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited, to the following:

    • Crafting social media content;
    • Tracking website, social media, and communications analytics;
    • Graphic design;
    • Drafting internal and external communications;
    • Monitoring online conversation in EIG issue areas; and
    • Supporting administrative and operations activities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The successful candidate should be a self-starter with a background in political communications and digital outreach. A background in economic policy is preferred. Excellent writing, digital design, and social media skills, as well the ability to handle multiple tasks under short deadlines, are essential qualities.

    EDUCATION

    Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduates.

    DETAILS

    The internship will start in August and run through Friday, December 16th. You will be expected to work 40 hours a week, and will be paid $600 per week.
