  1. Maternal and Child Survival Program - Communications and Graphic Design Internship

    The Maternal and Child Survival Program is a global, USAID Cooperative Agreement to introduce and support high-impact health interventions with a focus on 24 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable maternal and child deaths (EPMCD) within a generation. The Program is focused on ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives. The Maternal and Child Survival Program supports programming in maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment.
    The Communications and Graphic Design Intern will assist the MCSP Communications Team in executing communications plans and strategies. This includes seeking opportunities to highlight MCSP programs, initiatives, products and results through featured articles, collateral, conferences, events, and via web and social media mediums.

    This internship is unpaid and open to current students only.

    Responsibilities:
    • Support Communications Team in the execution of MCSP’s strategic communications plan
    • Provide graphic design support to the Communications Team.
    • Engage MCHIP and other organizations on social media channels
    • Help to write and deliver press releases, fact sheets, blogs, articles and collateral materials
    • Develop accurate and creative story ideas for a variety of media and selected audiences, including sharing among like-minded groups and partner organizations
    • Aid in planning of high level events for USAID and MCSP
    Required Qualifications:
    • Demonstrate ability to plan and execute successful events and manage projects
    • Experience in graphic design, specifically adobe products (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop – preferred); Proficiency in other Adobe products highly valued.
    • Ability to multi-task is a must
    • Strong written oral and presentation skills
    • Familiarity with and/or interest in international development
    • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, build consensus and work with diverse groups of people
    • Preference will be given to students enrolled in programs such as Graphic Design, Communications, or other applicable programs.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C. and led by an experienced, bipartisan team, EIG convenes leading experts from the public and private sectors, develops original policy research, and works to advance creative legislative proposals that will bring new jobs, investment, and economic growth to communities across the nation.

    THE ROLE

    EIG’s Events and Operations Intern will contribute to day-to-day operations, logistical planning, and implementation of internal and external events. This role will work with the EIG Executive Team and staff to develop and implement impactful events to enhance the reputation of the organization. Additional responsibilities will include compiling and updating mailing and invitation lists; proofreading, fact-checking, and editing internal communications materials; assisting in travel planning; and providing general administrative support.

    Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited, to the following:

    --Creating and managing complex mailing lists in Excel;
    --Assisting with all stages of event management, including but not limited to: budgeting, vendor relations, contracts, collateral development, registration, and communications;
    --Monitoring and maintaining office supplies inventory; and
    --Conducting research and making recommendations on improving operational efficiency.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The successful candidate should be a self-starter with a background in events and administration. A background in economic policy is preferred. Excellent writing and communication skills, as well a keen attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks under short deadlines, are essential qualities.

  5. Economic Innovation Group - Policy Fellow

    The Economic Innovation Group (EIG) is an ideas laboratory and advocacy organization dedicated to forging a more dynamic, entrepreneurial, and innovative U.S. economy for the 21st century. Headquartered in Washington, D.C. and led by an experienced, bipartisan team, EIG convenes leading experts from the public and private sectors, develops original policy research, and works to advance creative legislative proposals that will bring new jobs, investment, and economic growth to communities across the nation.

    THE ROLE

    EIG is looking for a dynamic and motivated emerging leader in economic policy to serve as its Spring Economic Policy Fellow. The Policy Fellow will work with EIG’s Policy Team, consisting of the Senior Director for Policy and Strategy, the Manager for Research and Policy Development, and the Manager for Government Affairs to develop the organization’s policy agenda. The Policy Fellow will provide research support and will execute an original research project. In addition, the Policy Fellow will be closely involved in advancing a core piece of legislation in Congress around distressed communities.

    Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited, to the following:

    · Assist in conducting spot research and drafting briefers for members of EIG’s Executive Team on key policy areas of focus, including economic and community development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and access to capital;
    · Research and evaluate innovative and effective state-level policies in EIG’s core issue areas to highlight in blogs, newsletters, op-eds, briefers, and reports;
    · Serve as an internal resource for up-to-date information on relevant national and state-level policy developments;
    · Work with Policy Team Managers to build a repository of relevant best practices from all layers of government as well as abroad;
    · Work with Policy Team Managers to produce collateral materials to advance EIG’s legislative priorities;
    · Contribute to the substantive development of infographics, blogs, and reports as needed; and
    · Regularly attend and report back on relevant think tank events in DC.

    The Policy Fellow will also be responsible for producing one capstone research project under the guidance of EIG managers and directors. The project will likely take the form of a deep-dive analysis into a single policy that may become a core state or national advocacy priority for EIG.

    Elements of the fellowship may be tailored to suit a particular candidate’s strengths, background, and interests as well.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    · Master’s degree in relevant field (e.g. public policy, economics, sociology).
    · Demonstrated interest in EIG’s core issue areas (economic and community development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and access to capital) either through past work or volunteer experience or through independent research projects.
    · Demonstrated fluency in methods of qualitative analysis.
    · Familiarity with basic quantitative methods of analysis, demonstrated by proficiency in higher-level Excel functions and at least one statistical analysis software program.
    · Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    · Familiarity with the policymaking process gained through, for example, prior work or internship experience on the Hill or in state or local government preferred but not required.
    · Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
    · Self-motivated, creative, organized, and deeply committed to personal and organizational excellence.

    EDUCATION

    Current graduate students or recent graduates.

    The fellowship will start in January and run through May. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
