Superlatives

For your Tuesday specialty programming, we decided to see what would come up via a handful of particularly positive search terms on a popular job-search board.  As we've asserted in the past, we believe it's helpful (essential, even) to shake up your search methodology on occasion – and we hope this approach connects you with a few opportunities you might have otherwise missed in your (and our) regular job-unearthing efforts.

  2. World Jewish Restitution Organization - Communications Manager

    Following the collapse of the Communist regimes in Eastern Europe, the leading world Jewish organizations established the World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO) to address the restitution of Jewish property and to remind the world that the time has come to redress the enormous material wrongs caused to European Jewry during the Holocaust. WJRO is the legal and moral representative of world Jewry in pursuing claims for the recovery of Jewish properties in Europe (with the exception of Germany and Austria).

    WJRO seeks an innovative, driven Communications Manager to join us in our urgent mission to pursue a measure of justice for Holocaust survivors and devastated Jewish communities. We are looking for a candidate who will be passionate about our work and excited to articulate our positions in a cohesive and compelling voice to our audiences, including government officials in Europe, the United States and beyond; nongovernment organizations; media; and the general public. S/he is experienced in communicating across varied platforms and technologies and able to demonstrate the efficacy of public relations and social media campaigns. S/he is proactive, able to work both independently and collaboratively on a team, and has strong project management skills. The Communications Manager can be based in New York or Washington, D.C.

    Tasks / Responsibilities

    --Planning, developing, and implementing activities relating to all phases of media and communications efforts in support of WJRO’s strategic goals and overall mission;
    --Maintaining high-level visibility and leadership presence for the WJRO through implementation of key communications activities;
    --Initiating and maintaining relationships with key local, national, and international media, editors and reporters across various platforms;
    --Proactively reaching out to the media and informing them of WJRO activities, developments, and expertise in areas of interest;
    --Developing WJRO’s website as an effective platform for building support for WJRO’s mission and managing the website on a daily basis;
    --Designing and executing strategies for establishing a relevant and loyal following on varied social media platforms and managing WJRO’s social media accounts on a daily basis;
    --Assisting in writing policy papers and other communications to governments;
    --Ensuring official communications from the WJRO are complete and accurate, and that style is consistent for all internal and external WJRO communications;
    --Engaging in other aspects of WJRO’s substantive work as needed;
    --International travel opportunities available, but not required.
    Qualifications
    --Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years’ experience or Master’s degree with 1-3 years’ experience in communications, social media and editorial strategy, and content production;
    --Proven track record of successful outcomes in:
    o media placements and press releases;
    o building strong relationships with press, preferably with international experience;
    o managing a website, preferably with technical knowledge of WordPress or a similar software;
    o social media strategy and campaigns, including techniques for building “followers” and enhancing brand identity;
    --Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to reflect the unique voice and culture of the organization;
    --Proactive and out-of-the-box thinker;
    --Analytical competence in assimilating information from a variety of sources and reporting on efficacy of outreach initiatives;
    --Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task while producing quality and high priority communications under strict deadline;
    --Nonprofit or government experience a plus.
