Media Relations Consultant (Freelance Contract)
APAP, the Association of Performing Arts Professionals, is looking for a Media Relations Consultant to work with us on a freelance contract basis. (Dates approximate: July 1, 2017-January 30, 2018).
The ideal candidate would be a professional who has experience crafting messages and pitching to national and international media and who is available on a project basis for APAP|NYC, our annual flagship conference in New York City.
Desirable qualities include enviable organization, strong detail orientation, supreme people skills, diplomacy and professionalism, and an ability to respond quickly and calmly in fast-paced event environment. Preferred experience in the performing arts industry. While this is a freelance (not in-office) position, we prefer someone based in Washington, DC or New York City.
The scope of this position includes the following deliverables:
Represent APAP for media relations, including, but not limited to, pitching media, managing media requests and serving as primary point of contact in advance of and during APAP|NYC 2018.
Develop media relations strategies, inclusive of traditional and new media engagement, and media messaging for APAP|NYC 2018.
Prepare applicable organizational materials (core messages and media interview briefing sheets) to prepare staff for media engagement. Advise APAP President & CEO on media appearances.
Create media strategy/timeline; Create and distribute applicable editorial content (press releases and alerts) in support of media relations strategies.
Oversee management of media lists segmented by beat.
Manage media invitations to APAP|NYC 2018 and media thank you letters at end of project.
Coordinate with Director of Marketing and Communications on strategy and deliverables and, where applicable, consult with APAP managers and partners.
Work on-site in New York leading up to and during annual APAP|NYC conference in New York. (January 12-16, 2018)
Oversee monthly media placement reporting, and prepare a cumulative report at end of project.
Position is a freelance contract position. Preferred location in Washington, DC or New York City.
