ReplyDeleteMaternal & Child Survival Program - Contribution Analysis Intern
ReplyDeleteMCSP seeks a short-term intern to assist with document and literature review around selected interventions for an evaluation method called “contribution analysis” (CA) in up to three country programs, possibly including India, Burma, Rwanda. The purpose of this method is to be able to document and highlight MCSP’s achievements at country level. The internship is unpaid.
Developed by John Mayne, contribution analysis [1] is a way to systematically explore cause and effect relationships between interventions and outcomes/impact, and can be done as part of a summative evaluation or prospectively in newer programs. The use of this method is particularly useful in situations where the complexity of interventions, the existing systems, and lack of a counterfactual make it challenging to claim that the program has made a difference. Using this method should help MCSP come to reasonably robust conclusions about the contribution that has been made based on well-articulated theories of change.
Responsibilities
Based on interest, skills, and mutual agreement, the successful candidate will work on one or more of the following task areas. The CA Intern is expected to make a time commitment of 10-15 hours per week, for a period of at least three months (renewable), preferably a graduate student.
The intern will assist with gathering evidence around selected interventions that have potentially contributed to better outcomes. Other tasks will include literature reviews to synthesize existing evidence around certain approaches implemented by the selected country programs; drafting data collection instruments and assisting with analysis and report writing.
Key Activities and Deliverables
1. Preliminary desk review of evidence base for selected interventions that will be analyzed
2. Literature review of evidence for selected interventions
3. Country specific data and evidence review for selected interventions and relevant service delivery data.
4. Preparation of contribution analysis presentation tools for country staff to assist in stakeholder training
5. Analysis of data
Production of case studies for each country where contribution analysis is conducted. The CA Intern will also have opportunities to learn more about the global Program and various technical areas, as well as to support other MMEL activities as needed.
