A Change of Approach

For your Tuesday specialty programming, we turned away from our most frequently-used job-boards & search engines, and instead looked at job boards we hadn't looked at in a while, as well as searching some random industry lists to find some employer career pages to visit.  We hope the process helps unearth some opportunities you (or we) might not have otherwise found and also reinforces our regular suggestion to shake up your job-search process every now & then.

    SJS Consultants (SJSC) is a boutique consultancy headquartered in Washington, D.C. The firm specializes in community engagement strategies; nonprofit and business communications support; government and law enforcement consulting; PR, publicity, and promotion campaigns; message development; and crisis management. Former and current clients include: the Virginia NAACP, Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD), former First Lady Michelle Obama’s United State of Women, and the Center for Policing Equity.

    SJSC is looking for a dynamic, innovating, and responsible communications intern to support some of its major clients. The intern will work directly with the Director of Communications on various tasks and help implement PR strategies across varying clients, industries, and subject areas. This internship will start by late May/early June. Position is non-paid.

    Hours per week requested: 10-15

    Duties and Responsibilities include:
    -Researching and Compiling daily news clips
    -Researching and Compiling media lists
    -Drafting and posting digital media content (social media and website copy)
    -Creation and management of social media plans for various clients
    -Traditional media and social media monitoring
    -Press event coverage, management, and assistance
    -Compiling, drafting, and designing e-newsletters
    -Other duties assigned

    Qualifications:
    Communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, and political science majors are encouraged to apply. Recent graduates are preferred.

    Prior communications experience is a plus, but not necessary.
