    The National Urban League Washington Bureau is seeking an unpaid communications and digital intern to start immediately. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications and External Affairs with day-to-day oversight by the Senior Manager of Communications, the Communications

    Intern will:
    • Help develop and message NULWB’s policy products, issue campaigns, events, and other work to the media and public
    • Help produce our weekly podcast by developing episode ideas, scheduling guests, drafting scripts, editing audio, and preparing interview questions
    • Draft and design social media content and assets
    • Write and pitch press releases, statements, advisories, op-eds, and blog posts
    • Pitch select NUL and NULWB staff as media spokespeople on key issues
    • Help maintain NULWB social media accounts
    • Work with policy team to coordinate content
    • Help drive the growth of NULWB’s digital media presence
    • Participate in the planning and implementation of media strategy around issues, campaigns and events
    • Develop and maintain databases of press contacts
    • Compile daily news clips
    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements and qualifications:
    • Ability to commit at least three days a week
    • College student, graduate student or Bachelor’s degree with a major in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or the like
    • Social media and digital know-how
    • Passion for civil rights and economic justice
    • Interest or experience in politics or congress
    • Solid writing, editing, and research skills
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
    • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to quickly and accurately absorb key policy issues and news
    • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
    • Ability to work as part of a team or individually
