Shake it Up

NRECA is committed to harnessing the strength of America’s electric cooperatives into a single powerful voice.

    State Government Relations Manager P.4


    Manages the association’s outreach to state elected officials and policy-focused national organizations and lobby state elected and appointed officials in those forums. These include organizations like NCSL and CSG. Also represents the Association by communicating NRECA positions to outside groups, consumer groups and various issue coalitions, and informs the GR department of advocacy positions being taken by them. Communicates in a timely fashion with the VP of Political Affairs to ensure that follow-up advocacy occurs as needed. Works to expand the outreach program by establishing NRECA’s presence in additional elected official groups and forums including those emphasizing diversity. Has responsibility for delivering complex issues to these forums by coordinating closely with subject matter experts across NRECA and the membership.

    Requirements and Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required

    7+ years of professional political advocacy experience along with experience in coalitions and national organizations required

    1-3 years of management experience preferred

    Understanding and communicating the legal, political, and regulatory issues that impacts our cooperative members is preferred

    Knowledge of electric co-ops, the cooperative business model and the issues facing the cooperative world

    Ability to apply legal, political and regulatory analysis skills in the execution of duties and responsibilities

    Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse membership, employees and/or vendors in a clear and precise manner

    Ability to develop and deliver presentations and/or training workshops

    Ability to be persuasive, negotiate, and collaborate with individuals at all levels inside and outside of the organization

    Ability to use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) in the day-to-day essential duties of the

    Ability to provide service excellence by building relationships, being resourceful, responsive and respectful
