    The Maternal and Child Survival Program is a global, USAID Cooperative Agreement to introduce and support high-impact health interventions with a focus on 24 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable maternal and child deaths (EPMCD) within a generation. The Program is focused on ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives. The Maternal and Child Survival Program supports programming in maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment.

    The Communications Intern will assist the MCSP Communications Team in executing communications plans and strategies. This includes seeking opportunities to highlight MCSP programs, initiatives, products and results through featured articles, collateral, conferences, events, and via web and social media mediums.
    This internship is unpaid and open to current students only.

    Responsibilities:
    • Support Communications Team in the execution of MCSP’s strategic communications plan
    • Provide graphic design support to the Communications Team.
    • Engage MCSP and other organizations on social media channels
    • Help to write and deliver press releases, fact sheets, blogs, articles and collateral materials
    • Develop accurate and creative story ideas for a variety of media and selected audiences, including sharing among like-minded groups and partner organizations
    • Aid in planning of high level events for USAID and MCSP

    Required Qualifications:
    • Demonstrate ability to plan and execute successful events and manage projects
    • Experience in graphic design, specifically adobe products (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop – preferred); Proficiency in other Adobe products highly valued.
    • Ability to multi-task is a must
    • Strong written oral and presentation skills
    • Familiarity with and/or interest in international development
    • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, build consensus and work with diverse groups of people
    • Preference will be given to students enrolled in programs such as Graphic Design, Communications, or other applicable programs.
