    The Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) seeks a Public Affairs and Communications Manager to join its growing team. This forward thinking, media-savvy professional will develop, implement and manage communication strategies to promote and educate the U.S. Congress, federal agencies, partner organizations, and the public about AOPO’s public policy priorities, advocacy activities and AOPO member initiatives and achievements.

    Primary Responsibilities
    • Coordinate and supervise activities of AOPO’s PR agency
    • Create communication strategies and messages that highlight AOPO’s mission and the good works of its members
    • Monitor, assess and manage association related media reputational risks; prepare appropriate response to stories and other media activities that could pose a reputational risk to the image of the industry
    • Prepare comment letters for submission to regulatory agencies and organizations
    • Proactively engage in coalition building with related organizations and regulatory agencies
    • Research and respond to requests, questions and comments on regulatory issues from AOPO members and external stakeholders
    • Develop and maintain an online presence for the association, including an articulated and robust social media strategy
    • Respond to media requests and facilitate interviews; prepare talking points and media briefing notes for interviews
    • Establish relationships with leading media organizations to disseminate information concerning the industry
    • Prepare and maintain a crisis communication strategy for the association and its members
    • Write and produce member newsletters
    • Plan outreach during peak events; track analytics and engagement data for various campaigns and media activities
    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media affairs, public affairs, marketing or similar degree area
    • Minimum of three years related experience; Association experience and/or Capitol Hill experience strongly preferred
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and information in an organized and concise manner
    • Demonstrated ability to create strategic communication plans across multiple media platforms
    • Familiarity with tools and methodologies for monitoring the impact of communications strategies and a working knowledge of online media tracking tools
    • Demonstrated success with obtaining placements
    • Proficiency in the use of social media platforms

    Desired Qualifications:
    • Knowledge and understanding of CMS and HHS regulatory policies
    • Experience working with a medical-related member association
    • Photography skills (or a desire to develop skills in this area) – not a requirement for the job but could be useful in this position
