We are a leading national voice on anti-hunger and social justice. We work independently and
in coalition with partners to protect and strengthen government nutrition programs that help
people put food on the table & explore innovative solutions to persistent challenges to food
security We educate communities across the country about the reality of hunger and how they can join us to help end it.
We seek an organized, thoughtful & detail-oriented Communications Associate to help implement a strategic, multi-faceted communications program designed to promote organization’s advocacy priorities, raise funds, and grow brand visibility. The Communications Associate will devise and implement systems to manage our public relations?digital presence & proactively identify opportunities.
This position will be remote with option of working from office in Los Angeles, CA or
Washington, DC.
Duties/Responsibilities
--Assist Vice President of Communications with day-to-day department projects, events,
meetings, and general operations.
--Work closely with Vice President of Communications and Senior Communications Manager to
implement cross-channel communications strategy and various public relations tactics to
advance the organization’s advocacy, development, and programmatic goals.
--Devise/implement systems to manage the organization’s online presence, including
website and social media platforms. Analyze of the organization’s digital
engagement & opportunities to grow brand visibility.
--Manage logistics for speaking engagements — for staff, board, and other spokespeople.
--Collaborate with various departments to capture the organization’s unique voice in all outward-facing materials and communications.
--Monitor and stay up to date on anti-hunger issues in mainstream and niche media outlets,
identifying opportunities for the organization to engage, advance policy priorities, and raise
visibility.
--Curate the organization’s story bank, media library (photos, videos, audio files, etc.), editorial
calendars, and press tracking documents.
--Draft newsletter articles, talking points, speeches, opinion pieces, blog posts, and other
materials as needed.
--Other duties as assigned.
--Some nights and weekends required.
Qualifications
--Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combo of education, training & experience.
--Experience working in a nonprofit and/or public affairs organization highly preferred. Social justice, anti-hunger, or Jewish community experience a plus.
--Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
--Excellent judgment, critical thinking, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
--Ability to take direction well, manage deadlines efficiently, work independently, and
collaborate effectively with various teams and partners.
Compensation and Benefits:
We offer a compensation package that includes a competitive salary range of $53k-$56k. Employer-paid benefits include comprehensive medical insurance as well as
Life/Disability/ADD insurance. 401K plan with an employer match,FSA participation, dental/vision/AFLAC insurance at a discounted group rate. We offer generous vacation and sick time plan & holiday schedule, including major Jewish holidays. We close early on Fridays in observance of Shabbat.
