National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA) – Social Media Intern

NACOA is seeking an intern w/ strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, social media networking, and a determination to raise awareness around the adverse impact of alcohol and drug use on children and families. The organization is in the final stages of redesigning our website, and we need an intern who will assist us in the launch a brand-new and very unique social media campaign---that will enable us to reach Children of Alcoholics directly in ways that were not previously possible. The intern for position will need to apply strong communication, entrepreneurial, and critical thinking skills in order to coordinate their work w/ a highly integrated team who will need to rely on an intern who is excited to take the initiative to gain a ton of creative online experience.

You are expected to have experience w/ social media at least on a personal level, but experience on a professional level is preferred. You must be able to think strategically and envision how social media fits into an organization’s overall marketing strategy, and have a love for building communities online. Your primary role will be building long-lasting relationships by providing our audience(s) w/ value and opportunities to directly engage in our mission work. The prospective intern must be able to assist in formulating social media plans (once you have been properly introduced to the messaging mission of NACOA), and then carry them out. You will report to, and work under the guidance of the Director of Communications and Development. You must be able to measure and document the impact of social media, and then suggest action-steps to increase our various audience(s) engagement w/ NACOA, throughout social media platforms.

Responsibilities include:
--Manage daily online outreach and promotion using Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and more—finding influential users to follow, friend, and like the organization. As well as replying to comments, questions, and messages live during twitter chats and other strategic engagement campaigns.
--Take direction and help build a Common Campaign Story Across Channels: Executing strategic social media digital initiatives, including developing and managing viral marketing campaigns, and integrating interactive media into the overall development and communications strategy.
--Create, write and research relevant content for Blog posts, Tweets, Facebook and news updates—Experience in video production, and editing graphic images preferred, but not required.
--Monitor/analyze social media trends and their impact on NACOA’s overall mission, and testing/tracking key messages to identify what resonates w/ audiences most. And then preparing reports to update internal staff on usage statistics and reach metrics.

Requirements and Qualifications:
--Energy & desire to come up w/ fresh ideas on how to expand our online presence
--Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills so that you may effectively collaborate w/ the staff and other interns.
--Computer literacy, and thorough knowledge of various Internet applications
--Work well independently and as part of community
--20 hours/week minimum; 1 full semester; Mon-Fri, timing flexible

While not required, we prefer applicants have two years of college or professional technical experience—Marketing, Communication, or Psychology majors are ideal applicants. We’re looking for people who are flexible, creative, hardworking, and have a heart for the issues we speak to.

Send letter and resume w/ at least one reference to our Director Caitlin Dempsey, Internship is unpaid but we happily coordinate w/ universities to meet college credit requirements. The deadline is Sept. 19; we encourage you to apply as soon as possible if you will be an academic intern! Note: In the body of the email include your availability, start date ASAP.
