About Internship:

The Public Affairs and Communications Intern will work as part of the Public Affairs and Communications team, which includes in-house staff and outside consultants, and will report to the Public Affairs Specialist.

Responsibilities:

- Track Council media inquiries in Excel;
- Review beauty magazines and trade publications for relevant industry articles;
- Monitor NGO activity and communicate that activity to various stakeholders with direction from managers;
- Daily media monitoring;
- Assist department in the design of PowerPoint presentations for various meetings;
- Identifying opportunities for the Council’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest) and assist in organizing follower lists;
- Notify Council staff of articles and studies of particular interest, especially during periods of breaking news;
- Assist with research projects per direction of managers;
- Process invoices and contracts on a weekly basis;
- Additional administrative duties; including filing, updating and maintaining media lists, etc.

Requirements:

- Public Relations/ Communications major
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to juggle multiple projects often under tight deadlines
- Ability to gather and organize research
- Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other computer programs (i.e.: Adobe Photoshop)
- Experience writing news releases and statements is helpful
- Social media knowledge and know-how is preferred

Start and End Date: August 2015 – December 2015

Part time 20 hours per week

Pay: $10/hour
