Now Boarding, Gate 5

First – from the department of correction and reassessment – we take another look our smirking Wednesday footnote pointing out that this Senior Policy Analyst job with the Office of Financial Stability was posted on Good Friday, April 10 - and closes April 15. Sounds to us like the OFS Team already has somebody in mind for the position.

Our DCPA+CJ publicity-attack machine alerted some journalist/blogger types to this perceived chicanery – and Ed O’Keefe, cheerful tyro of the Washington Post Federal Eye, somewhat defused our petty outrage, letting us know that because OFS has "direct hire authority …. they don't even have to post the jobs on USAJobs.gov." He adds that very few gov't programs have ever been given such leeway, but that "OFS is nonetheless posting some of the positions in hopes of exposing the positions to a wider, perhaps talented, applicant pool" – even though they are getting few if any qualified applicants though that channel.

While we still think the posting period in this case is curiously brief, our predilection for cynicism and conspiracy is lessened (just this once) by Mr. O’Keefe. And, we’d just as well see the OFS cabal succeed, anyways – so please, get those applications in for this newly-posted high-profile offering:
Now, on to some great opportunities – including a few of the off-beat variety – to wrap up your job-seek week.

The American Enterprise Institute is seeking a full-time Research Assistant (scroll down) to work with a conservative senior fellow in AEI’s economics department. Responsibilities will include policy research; writing/editing policy statements & op-eds; and organizing seminars, conferences & meetings. Government Relations Associate and other 2009 grad opportunities also noted.

Some of you may already know that LinkedIn has a jobs board. Here’s a couple relevant public relations jobs that we found there:
International RAM Associates, provider of security and transportation-related services to airports, airlines and the US Government has a boarding pass awaiting a new Strategic Communications Manager at their Crystal City offices. Aviation industry outreach experience is desired.

Surely this is a dream job for one of you folks out there – Promotions Coordinator (part time) for the DC-area activities of The Onion. A passion for The Onion and its various brands and superb knowledge of the city's cultural scene are among the hurdles for this $10/hr. gig. Promo jobs and internships in other locales are also noted.

The Civil Air Patrol is combing their membership ranks to find a Public Affairs Team Leader – a volunteer position. Here’s a pdf link with more info.

Charles Krauthammer – columnist of the conservative and widely-syndicated variety – is looking for a Research Assistant for a year or two’s service.

The Airline Owners and Pilots Association want someone to help elevate their presence to the aviation industry and the general public, with particular emphasis on convention/meeting related activities. That someone would be their next (first?) Director of Strategic Outreach Planning.

And yet another aviation-related opportunity today: Airports International Council, North America seeks Vice President, Communications and Marketing, to direct communications activities in support of legislative/regulatory objectives and enhancement of association’s image.

Do you possess campaign experience (such as grassroots, organizing, legislative, electoral, or public relations campaigns) and a working knowledge of VAN, Catalyst and Excel software systems? If so, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union wants to talk to you about their Strategic Targeting Coordinator opportunity.

It’s enough to drive us to drinking – we couldn’t find this purported Director, Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration job with the District of Columbia through their HR website. Pay is $103k-$154k, if you’re still interested in chasing it down.

The crew at Marchex style themselves as leaders in the local search and performance advertising field. They’re in hiring mode for:
Optimal Solutions is an economic and policy analysis research and consulting firm with offices in the Baltimore-Annapolis-Washington, DC area. They note a dozen-plus opportunities available, mostly in the healthcare policy/research field.

Grassroots Enterprise (name says it all, we think) is looking for a Chief Operating Officer to help keep the trains – or at least the employees – running on time. Significant experience leading finance and operations in a consulting or professional services organization is desired.

Google analytics tells us that we even pull in visitors from the Great White North on occasion. This one’s for you: Market 2 World Communications is in search of a Communications Strategist (smart, stellar, fun, high-energy, inventive) to join their team based in Almonte, Ontario.

The Greater Washington Sports Alliance needs a good sport to serve as Program Coordinator to support executive, communications, development and event activities. Surely you’ll score some free tix as part of the experience.

The career center of the National Council of Nonprofits is Friday’s job seeker resource – featuring diverse opportunities in the DC area and around the country.
