    Brown Lloyd James, a boutique international strategic communications firm headquartered in New York, London and Doha, is seeking a director to manage its growing Washington operations.

    The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of success in public relations, as well as comprehensive understanding of current political and foreign affairs issues in order to best serve BLJ’s diverse, international client base.

    BLJ specializes in public relations, public good and public diplomacy campaigns for clients ranging from foreign governments to domestic non-profits, and everything in between. We have helped countries win Olympic and World Cup bids. We have raised international awareness to protect environmental treasures. We’ve even helped pass United Nations resolutions. We are looking for a new team member who relishes being a professional communicator in an increasingly globalized world.

    The ideal candidate should be able to:

    -Oversee multiple existing client accounts, including building strong working relationships with client leadership

    -Develop connections with key media and other influencers

    -Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the Washington area

    -Manage and mentor junior staff and contractors

    The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable regarding:

    -Traditional and digital public relations

    -Project management, including the creation and execution of communications plans

    -International relations and current foreign policy issues

    The ideal candidate should have:

    -5-8 years professional experience, particularly work in anagency setting

    -A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or political science. Master’s degree in related field is a plus.

    -An outgoing, outsized personality, with the desire to constantly build upon existing and create new relationships

    Salary and benefits

    Salary range $60,000 - $80,000, based on experience. BLJ provides a number of benefits, including subsidized healthcare. Unique benefit: Ability to work part-time from home, if desired.

    The position reports directly to BLJ’s leadership in New York. Candidate must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
