Beer Gardening at Night

Finally visited the Westover Beer Garden last night; pretty excellent – and a shout out to the estimable author of the finest work available on travel and time-passing in Turkmenistan: Unknown Sands, who recommended it.  Honorable mention for the good folks at the Japanese Auto Clinic in Arlington, who have (we hope) finally fixed a vexing oil leak issue in the DCPA+CJ-mobile.

Mystery consumer product association - Communications Intern - paid position

A Washington, DC-based national trade association, representing a large consumer product industry, is seeking a paid intern to primarily assist the communications department. The office is metro accessible. The position begins as soon as possible.

Job Description:

The communications intern will help with media monitoring, writing projects, research, association events, and other online and organizational projects, including administrative duties when necessary. This position may also be called upon to help with legislative tracking and research on public policy positions.

The communications intern will have the opportunity to work on projects involving internal and external communications, as well as legislation and regulations of concern to the organization’s members. The ideal candidate is a mass communication, journalism or public affairs/relations undergraduate or graduate student interested in communications and public relations from the perspective of a policy-focused association. Good organizational and communication skills, intellectual curiosity and a respectful and professional attitude are required. Must be able to juggle multiple deadlines and work independently. The ideal candidate will be willing to jump in and help with any association needs.

Compensation & Availability:

This internship will be a part time, paid position, with the possibility of continuing through the Spring 2014 semester. The association will work with the candidate to form the schedule.

Requirements:

• Must be currently enrolled in a communications-related degree program at an accredited college or university

• Strong academic record

• Previous communications internship experience

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style and customary public relations writing

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and Outlook

• Self-starter; ability to meet tight deadlines; strong attention to detail

• Must be 21 years of age at time of internship to apply
