ReplyDeleteThe National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.
The Society’s Advocacy Team based in Washington, D.C. serves as the public policy and government relations office for the national organization, overseeing advocacy work being done at the federal, state and local levels.
This internship opening is available immediately. This is a part-time, paid internship.
Qualifications: Applicants should be in their senior year of college or in graduate school with education, major(s) and/or experience in advocacy/public policy (including political science) or public health. Past experience in health policy and/or in a legislative or non-profit office as well as experience in social media is preferred.
Responsibilities include:
• Legislative and regulatory research and tracking of issues (such as MS research funding, access to healthcare and long-term services and supports) at the federal and state levels.
• Research and work around building the Society’s capacity and advocacy effectiveness including through the engagement of volunteer activists.
• Support planning around and work for Society advocacy events including its annual Public Policy Conference.
• Attend advocacy strategy meetings, as well as represent the Society at disability and health coalition meetings.
• Assistance in preparing materials for, attending and summarizing legislative briefings and congressional hearings.
• Support on advocacy written materials including issue summaries and congressional testimony.
• Some support of the Society’s advocacy social media channels.
• Some administrative assistance.
