Job Description:
The Director of Communications is responsible for creating and overseeing media relations and outreach efforts and managing the organization’s online presence and social media strategy. The Director will work closely with the President, Vice President and policy team to develop and implement communications and public relations strategies. The Director will manage a relationship with a DC-based public relations firm and identify and contract with graphic designers and video consultants as-needed for ongoing projects.
Responsibilities:
• Drive overall press strategy as well as day-to-day media relations for NCEE and CIEB. This position is the first point of contact for all press inquiries. The ideal candidate will proactively identify media opportunities and maintain relationships with key reporters.
• Oversee the organization’s online presence including making web site updates through a CMS system, managing social media accounts and reviewing analytics to determine how to improve digital strategy.
• Handle publicity and assist in event planning for all publication releases. Coordinate efforts with PR firm for larger projects.
• Work closely with President and Vice President to edit, post and promote a weekly blog hosted by edweek.org.
• Work with policy team to produce monthly e-newsletter, brainstorm ideas, oversee process with attention to timeline, post content online and send out using email marketing software.
• Generate press materials including but not limited to press releases, one-pagers, Q&As and web copy.
• Support President and Vice President when needed in preparation of presentations to international, national and state audiences; assist with Prezi and PPT presentations.
Qualifications:
• Excellent communications skills: written, verbal and online.
• Team player with ability to balance multiple projects independently.
• Passion for education policy.
• Demonstrated experience in multi-tasking, prioritizing, and meeting expectations and goals.
• Excellent administrative, organizational and time management skills, planning abilities, and attention to detail.
• 5 years minimum relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related-field.
