  1. Maternal and Child Survival Program - Maternal Health Internship

The Maternal and Child Survival Program is a global, USAID Cooperative Agreement to introduce and support high-impact health interventions with a focus on 24 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable maternal and child deaths (EPMCD) within a generation. The Program is focused on ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives. The Maternal and Child Survival Program supports programming in maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment.

Jhpiego is the prime implementing partner, and other partners include Save the Children Federation, John Snow, Inc. (JSI), ICF International, Results for Development Institute, PATH, Population Services International (PSI) and CORE Group. Joining them are Broad Branch Associates, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Communications Initiative, Venture Strategies Innovations and Futures Institute as associate partners.

The MCSP Maternal Health team (Jhpiego) is seeking an intern to assist with innovative and simplified means of data presentation. The intern will work with the MCSP Maternal Health team to develop a series of data visualization templates (e.g. ranging from simple charts and tables to more complex dashboards) to facilitate use of data at MCSP-supported health facilities. The intern will develop and/or adapt a range of data presentation options, both low tech (laminated dry erase for completion by hand) and higher tech (computer generated through excel or other software). The goal is to produce simple tools to enable facility managers to visualize performance data or service statistics on a monthly or quarterly basis. The data visualization templates should be easy for data managers to populate, and should foster clear interpretation by facility managers and clinicians.

    Responsibilities:

    • The intern will work closely with the Maternal Health Advisor and the M&E Advisor to develop a series of simple data presentation templates for potential field testing through MCSP field programs

    Required Qualifications:

    • Experience in graphic design and data visualization is preferred
    • Familiarity with simple data presentations (e.g. bar charts, trend lines, etc.)
    • Comfortable using excel and other simple software packages
    • Preference will be given to students enrolled in programs such as Graphic Design and Communications.
