AdvaMed -- Fall/Winter Internship, Public Affairs
The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) Public Affairs department is seeking an intern to assist with daily public affairs activities in the health care policy space. The internship is located in our Washington, D.C., headquarters. Exact timing and schedule can be flexible based on availability of the right candidate. Generally, we’re looking for someone who would be available starting in November, but will consider candidates who are available in the winter semester with a start date sometime in January. This internship will provide valuable experience to students who want to learn more about health care policy, study public affairs and public relations activities, and work on implementing integrated communications plans using the latest digital, social, video and web tools.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist team with traditional media relations. Draft media advisories, press releases, pull together press kits and assist with distribution;
• Assist digital content manager in developing content for social media properties, including drafting content and creating simple graphics;
• Assist with event management for various public affairs and advocacy events on Capitol Hill and AdvaMed’s annual medtech conference;
• Assist with development of collateral for public relations campaigns including researching and drafting text for fact sheets, brochures, web pages and blog posts.
Qualifications
We seek a candidate who is motivated by a drive for achievement. Characteristics of a successful intern include:
• Excellent oral communication skills and exceptional writing skills
• Proficiency and interest in social media and digital web platforms
• Organized, with strong project management and time management skills
• Skilled at working independently
• Exceptional record of achievement in academics
• Proficiency with Adobe Suite including Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus.
• An interest in public affairs work in the healthcare space.
Educational Requirements
The candidate for this internship should be working toward a four-year bachelor’s or graduate degree, preferably in the areas of journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, business management or related field.
