Washington Media Scholars Foundation - Intern - Spring 2020

The Washington Media Scholars Foundation’s (WMSF) mission is to support undergraduate students seeking degrees in media-related majors through scholarship, professional development and networking. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, WMSF’s two programs include the annual Media Plan Case Competition and Media Fellows essay-based scholarships, distributed twice per year.

Intern Job Summary
We seek an energetic, reliable and responsible intern to join Washington Media Scholars Foundation during Spring semester 2020. In this position, you will be expected to learn the ins-and-outs of our mission, programs and systems. The intern will serve alongside staff and volunteers as a key team member and interface with senior staff, high-level supporters and stakeholders.

Interns receive a stipend and will be expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Ideally, the intern would be available to work our annual special event attended by nearly 500 media professionals on June 11, 2020 at the International Spy Museum.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities
• Aid in the implementation of the annual plan including marketing and communications
• Assist in preparing information and research materials; create and maintain presentations
• Research and gather documentation on key stakeholder groups
• Draft documents and reports; sort and manage digital files, oversee several mailings (email and snail mail), take notes and memos during meetings
• Consult upon and manage database and input information, data, and records
• Help plan and attend organizational functions and events
• Update and post supervised social media and website content; generate and respond to web correspondence, social media inquiries, and draft mass emails
• Answer external inquiries, and provide basic company information; oversee mailings
• Participate in projects as needed with our sister companies National Media & Purple Strategies

Intern Requirements and Qualifications
• Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college pursuing a media-related degree (includes but not limited to: Advertising, PR, Journalism, Strategic Media, IMC, Communications, Political Science, Business/Government)
• Graduate students are eligible for consideration
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel); graphic design skills a plus
• Salesforce experience desired
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills & able to work independently
