The Future is Now

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is seeking a Communications Director to oversee media relations/communications activities (including web sites) and lead a staff of seven. PCRM is also looking to hire a Director of Nutrition Policy to drive advocacy of vegetarian diets to the federal government, nonprofit health organizations, schools, and the general public – and a part-time Administrative Assistant, too.

The team here at DCPA+CJ has developed special, proprietary search algorithms that allow us to look into the future for jobs – in this case, a Feb. 9* posting from our good friends at Roll Call for an Energy and Environment Senior Professional at an anonymous government relations/federal marketing firm. Ideal candidate for this position will have significant experience with one or more energy-related Congressional committee, and/or with Dept. of Energy, along with time spent advocating in front of these groups.

Does Senior Government Relations Specialist (search DC location or req. ID 883) sound like the title that fits you? Could you execute day-to-day operations of a PAC? Research and respond to formal inquiries from federal and state elected officials? Coordinate the grassroots ...... oh, forget it – if you’re interested, you’ve already clicked on the link – and for those of you who didn’t: the job is with SallieMae.

Stop the presses, log off facebook, put down the sports section, and just listen: the Division of Integrated Biodefense at Georgetown University is recruiting Analysts for the Argus Research Operations Center (AROC). AROC is a multidisciplinary group formed in response to the need for comprehensive monitoring of worldwide biological threats. That sounds like one cool job – and, if you’re fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, you’ve got a shot.

The National Institutes of Health are in the market for a Public Affairs Officer to be responsible for arranging, coordinating, planning, managing, and evaluating all communications with and regarding the news media on a national and international level. Better hustle – the job closes Friday, Feb. 6 – job ID HHS/NIH-2009-1345, pay: $73k-$113k.

We’re planning on specializing in environmental jobs next Tuesday – but here’s a couple to tide you over until then – two Senior Policy Advisor (search via DC-area location or job IDs 10846 & 10847) positions with the Nature Conservancy. Both opportunities are related to climate change issues.

Online content developers NEEDED …. like yesterday” – that’s how Aquent is describing the desires of a nameless, market-leading client. The rest of the ad continues in similarly breathless and caps-laden prose, if you’re into that kind of thing (we are!).

Johnson Controls – a leader in global market leader in automotive systems, building efficiency, and power solutions – is also one of those enlightened companies that tell you just how old their employment listings are. In the case of Director, Federal Government Relations (search DC location or job ID 032273), it’s been on the books since Dec. 16. There’s an equally-aged Director, Legislative Relations (032274) description to be found there, as well.

An unknown but prestigious trade association is looking for a top-notch Executive Assistant and administrative right arm to support Govt. Affairs VP. TRAK Services also describes the related benefit package as both amazing and incredible – which seems fair, as they also reference busy twice in the description, along with flexible (you, not them) and frequent overtime (boo!!!) of the paid (yay!!!) variety.

The Association of Academic Health Centers is looking for a Program Associate to conduct policy research & analysis; write issue briefs and informational material, and staff workgroups. Dupont Circle location.

GlaxoSmithKline is seeking a Manager, Political Action Committee (use req ID 52852 or DC location) A working knowledge of FEC regulations, political fund-raising abilities, and knowledge of the federal and state legislative process are among their wants. Also available in the DC office – a Team Administrator (52774) position supporting their Government Affairs/Asia-Pacific team.

The Tax Foundation bills themselves as the oldest tax and fiscal policy research organization in Washington. They would like to hear from Director of Development candidates with 8 to10 years of fundraising experience with individual, foundation, and corporate donors. Seems perfect for Mr. Daschle, don’tcha think?

It’s green-centric job-search resources du jour: the Green Collar blog and tomorrow’s (Feb. 5) Green Jobs Expo at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

*unless they've changed/fixed it at some point since this was composed, of course.
