Crosscut Strategies – a strategic communications firm working with start-ups, large companies, and non-profits in tech, health care, and other sectors – is seeking a Director to join our team. The Director will be responsible for overseeing one or more client accounts, and managing all aspects of the account, including day-to-day client interactions, strategic planning, media relations, and crisis communications.

The ideal candidate will have 7 to 10 years of experience in political communications, press, or private sector media relations, including on-the-record experience. Experience in health care or on health care-related issues – especially digital health – is a major plus.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated, capable, and smart candidate to be a part of a small team at a growing firm. Many of our clients are high-growth start-ups, and like them, we keep the hierarchies flat and the fun and satisfaction high. We trust our employees to find the best way to get the work done, and our office has many cool places to do just that. We are located in the heart of Dupont/Farragut North area, with easy access to Metro, buses, and bikeshare. We work hard, but take breaks to debate music, points of grammar, best places to eat in DC, and which YouTube videos of baby animals are the cutest. Seriously.

Mandatory Skills and Qualifications
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Experience managing a team and working with clients or other top-level stakeholders.
• Ability to multi-task, work quickly to meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments at once.
• Previous work experience in campaigns, advocacy, strategic communications, or a related field.
• Significant on-the-record experience, good relationships with the media, and experience developing relationships with reporters.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Advanced proficiency with all standard professional software.
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.

Desired Skills and Qualifications
• Experience producing materials for public distribution, conducting policy and media research, overseeing vendors and outside contractors, and coordinating media events.
• Experience in the private sector, either with a communications firm or an individual company.
• Experience using social media campaigns to reach target audiences.
• Strong familiarity with the health care and technology sectors as well as federal and/or state policymaking processes.
• Experience working in a client-facing role for a communications firm managing multiple accounts, similar experience in an alternate setting, or experience working in the private sector.

Responsibilities include:
• Day-to-day management of client accounts, including working closely with client representatives to implement communications programs.
• Representing the client to media and other stakeholders, including serving as an on-the-record spokesperson as needed.
• Supervising junior staff and contractors, and coordinating with Crosscut Strategies’ senior team.
• Developing and implementing comprehensive media strategies to support client goals – including public policy campaigns, corporate and business communications, consumer media engagement, and other initiatives.
• Drafting and editing press releases, fact sheets, speeches, talking points, presentations, strategy memos, and other communications documents.
• Researching issues, policy developments, and media coverage of targeted topics, and distilling this research into clear, concise memos and reports for clients.
• Participating in new business development, including research and proposal preparation.
