Maternal and Child Survival Program - Communications and Graphic Design Internship

The Maternal and Child Survival Program is a global, USAID Cooperative Agreement to introduce and support high-impact health interventions with a focus on 24 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable maternal and child deaths (EPMCD) within a generation. The Program is focused on ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives. The Maternal and Child Survival Program supports programming in maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment.

The Communications and Graphic Design Intern will assist the MCSP Communications Team in executing communications plans and strategies. This includes seeking opportunities to highlight MCSP programs, initiatives, products and results through featured articles, collateral, conferences, events, and via web and social media mediums.

This internship is unpaid and open to current students only. Responsibilities:
• Support Communications Team in the execution of MCSP’s strategic communications plan
• Provide graphic design support to the Communications Team.
• Engage MCHIP and other organizations on social media channels
• Help to write and deliver press releases, fact sheets, blogs, articles and collateral materials
• Develop accurate and creative story ideas for a variety of media and selected audiences, including sharing among like-minded groups and partner organizations
• Aid in planning of high level events for USAID and MCSP Required Qualifications:
• Demonstrate ability to plan and execute successful events and manage projects
• Experience in graphic design, specifically adobe products (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop –
preferred); Proficiency in other Adobe products highly valued.
• Ability to multi-task is a must
• Strong written oral and presentation skills
• Familiarity with and/or interest in international development
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, build consensus and work with diverse groups of people
• Preference will be given to students enrolled in programs such as Graphic Design, Communications, or other applicable programs.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The FTP internship program offers practical and hands-on experience working in the nexus between the public and private sectors. We seek to prepare our interns for the next step in their professional or academic careers and hone their communications, analytical, and research skills. Our program exposes interns to the daily workings of our firm and affords them the opportunity to learn from the firm's consultants, conduct research on their behalf, and write analyses for staff. Interns will work with all departments at FTP, including Government Relations, Operations, and Research & Policy Analysis, though the majority of this internship will be focused on working with the Public Affairs department. Specific duties include supporting multiple social media rapid response operations, assisting with weekly and monthly qualitative reports for clients, and working with staff to execute robust paid advertising programs.

Internship Dates: ASAP – Friday, December 15th, 2017
Internship Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm
Internship Pay: $12.50 per hour

Ideal candidates will be highly proficient writers and possess strong research skills. The ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment are also highly desirable. Undergraduate students (Juniors/Seniors), graduate students, and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
